Speaking Silently: static symbols to live with is an attempt to establish an alternative system of communication to that of verbal expression for when one does not wish to speak. Through a combination of intimate gestures and predetermined statements, the work broaches contradictions between the private and public nature of language. It addresses the shifting meanings and misinformation contained within language and, in particular, the occasional inability to distil feelings into words.
